Vinyl Floor Heating Cheat Sheet

Learning the essentials of vinyl floor heating.

THE ESSENTIALS FOR HEATED VINYL FLOORS

It has been said that “if you can heat it, you can vinyl floor it.” This is especially true with in-floor radiant heating, which can be used with nearly any type of flooring material, including vinyl.

Vinyl Floor Heating Cheat Sheet

Vinyl is an increasingly popular choice for flooring in both residential and commercial settings because it is attractive, durable, and easy to maintain. And when used in conjunction with radiant floor heating, vinyl can provide a warm, comfortable surface underfoot that is ideal for any space.

Before you begin your vinyl floor heating project, there are a few things you should know in order to get the best results. Here is a Vinyl Floor Heating Cheat Sheet to help ensure your project goes smoothly:

Choose the Right Vinyl Flooring

For vinyl flooring, there are three main types of heating vinyl flooring we recommend:

Heating your wood floors has never been easier with WarmStep Radiant Heat Mats exclusively available from Thermosoft. These non-embedded electric systems radiant heating methods can be used on any flooring, including natural nail or glue-down versions.

The floating floors are a welcome replacement for the traditional hardwood or ceramic tile because it’s much easier to install, has padding underlayment that can be removed when not needed, and requires less time and material.

ThermoTiles are a great way to get your home heated floor without putting any strain on your schedule. With an installation time as easy and quick, this 1/8 inch thick radiant heating system will have anyone feeling warm in no time.

Get an Extra Temperature Sensor

You will need an extra temperature sensor to install your vinyl floor heating system properly. This is because the floor temperature sensor must be placed underneath the vinyl flooring to get an accurate reading.

The best way to do this is to purchase a floor sensor kit, including a temperature sensor and a floor probe. These kits are available at most home improvement stores.

Keep in mind that don’t hook it up to the wall outlet, only one of the two should be plugged in at a time for each zone. This is because you don’t want to lose the heat in your home if your already-installed sensor fails.

Also, consider the scenario if your room has a bulky furniture piece that you don’t want to move. In this case, you’ll need an additional sensor to get an accurate reading in that area.

Get the Right Accessories

When you install floor heating systems for vinyl, you have three options we want to mention:

ThermoFloor has an underlayment attached already, so you don’t need to add any more materials. However, if your flooring is cement or wood and there’s a chance of moisture getting through from the heating system then we recommend adding something else between it- like fiberboard.

WarmStep makes it easy to insulate your home. The company’s underlayment is like a pad that goes between the floor and heating system, so you can place one on top of another for extra warmth if desired. You may also want to add a moisture barrier if you have a cement subfloor.

If you have a wood subfloor, this is not necessary. You can also add a fiberboard between the heating system and vinyl flooring to keep things level and protect your investment from damage due to vibration or acoustic resonance that might occur when installing it directly on top of an unlevel surface.

ThermoTiles are a revolutionary way to create beautiful floors without sacrificing comfort. They get embedded in concrete, then the flooring is laid on top of them – no need for an underlayment! You might want to get some plastic tools, though; metal ones can cut through heating wires which could damage your mat or even harm you if they’re not handled correctly during installation…

We know that you want to make sure your heating system is up-to-code, so we recommend checking out our InstAlarm Continuity Monitor and Digital Multimeter accessory set. This will help keep things safe for everyone in the house!. You can check out all those items on our accessories webpage here.
